Please take warning to the information in this site. A TBI is one of the hardest things anyone can ever go through. The person with the TBI will not even realize what’s going on. They will be in denial and spend all their efforts trying to prove there is nothing wrong. You must educate yourselves quickly. Time is of most importance. Seek help immediately from professionals who specialize in TBI's, use support groups so you understand this happens to all TBI survivors. Families if you love that person just know this their life depends on you. You must put your grief aside and realize the injury. You have to step up to the plate and take charge of recovery. They will say the most aweful things but they don't mean it. Their thoughts just flow through their mouths and they can not help it. As hard as it is I know in my heart it can be beat if you stick together. Best of luck on your journey.

One out of ten people are affected by brain injury. You may have been injured yourself, or perhaps you know someone who has. Defined as physiological disruptions of brain function resulting from internal or external trauma, brain injuries most often result from motor vehicle crashes, violence, of falls. Some injuries are severe, causing death or coma, while others are milder, with symptoms that are harder to recognize. Survivors may suffer from headaches or dizziness, a decreased attention span, difficulty concentrating, or moodiness.
Many people who suffer from mild or moderate brain injuries never recover fully and the effects can be confusing and highly disruptive. Many people are left frustrated, wondering what is wrong with them. They may not even know that their condition is a result of a brain injury. |

While millions of people in the United States live with disabilities resulting from brain injuries, the public remains largely unaware of the causes and consequences of this epidemic.
- Brain Injury is the leading cause of death and disability among children and young adults and results in more deaths than all other causes combined.
- Approximately 20,000 Washington residents suffer a traumatic brain injury each year.
- Approximately 116,000 Washington residents are disabled due to a brain injury.
- 3 of our friends, neighbors, and family members die per day of brain injuries.
- The average cost for a traumatic brain injury survivor is approximately $4,000,000; 85% of which society bears.
Despite these overwhelming numbers, public support is largely insufficient to provide for services such as rehabilitation, case-management, employment, and personal care. Vehicle safety standards, such as mandatory seatbelt and motorcycle helmet laws, as well as firearm restrictions and teenage drinking laws, have been highly effective in curbing the incidence of brain injuries; but as the statistics above make clear, more of this legislation is needed. |

Our newsletter, information packets, and support groups have kept brain injury survivors and their family members in touch with the latest information and discoveries.
-
Our prevention and public awareness efforts have been responsible for the distribution of thousands of protective helmets.
-
Our advocacy has helped protect and restore the rights of brain injured citizens, as well as ensuring an increased level of public support for much needed services.
