Documentary Film: Understanding Traumatic Brain Injury This 29-minute video, introduced by General Colin L. Powell, USA (Ret.), offers an introduction to TBI, a health issue affecting at least 1.4 million Americans each year. It features the recovery journeys of several service personnel and their families. (this is on the DVBIC web site)

www.pedinroads.org Pedestrian InRoads works to ensure that the voices of the victims of pedestrian crashes and their families are heard. Every year in Seattle alone, 500 pedestrians are hit by vehicles. On average, about 75 will die or suffer a disabling injury, and over 400 are injured. Every week, one person is killed or disabled, and nine others will be hit. Each and every year - in Seattle alone.

Employment

Neurology Vocational Services Unit

The Department of Neurology Vocational Services Unit (NVSU), at Haborview is in its second year of a federally funded Project With Industry (PWI) grant. NVSU has a target population of clients with neurological disabilities such as TBI, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis and stroke. The grant allows the program to help find meaningful and financially viable work for the unemployed and underemployed with neurological disabilities at no cost to the client. The goals of the grant include serving 450 clients with neurological disabilities over a three year period and assisting 270 to placement.

International Infobase -- Employment and Disability Research and Policy

The Global Applied Disability Research and Information Network on Employment and Training (GLADNET) Association GLADNET collects and indexes a wide variety of documents, such as reports, government documents, external websites and project descriptions that relate to employment and training for people with disabilities, housed in an Infobase.  The GLADNET Infobase is now held by the Martin P. Catherwood Library  at the Cornell University School of Industrial and Labor Relations (ILR School), and is organized by year and Google searchable.  Interested rehabilitation and disability researchers, educators, and practitioners can access at no charge over 175 publications in various languages on this site at: http://digitalcommons.ilr.cornell.edu/gladnetcollect/.

Brain Injury Research

 

www.tbindc.org  The Traumatic Brain Injury National Data Center (TBINDC) at Kessler Medical Rehabilitation Research and Education Center is the coordinating center for the research and dissemination efforts of the Traumatic Brain Injury Model Systems (TBIMS) program funded by the National Institute on Disability and Rehabilitation Research (NIDRR). The TBI Model Systems consist of 16 comprehensive systems of care distributed throughout the United States that conduct innovative research and provide “model” care to persons who experience traumatic brain injury. The TBIMS program seeks to improve the lives of persons who experience traumatic brain injury, their families and their communities by creating and disseminating new knowledge about the course, treatment and outcomes relating to their condition.
